Maddie’s^® Shelter Medicine Program and the ASPCA are pleased to invite you to attend a full two-day conference focusing on the increasingly important issue of animal hoarding.  International experts will explore the ins and outs of hoarding from the psychology of hoarders to large-scale response, medical triage, and common health and behavior issues you’ll find in hoarded animals.  Community issues from media relations to hoarding prevention and response strategies will also be addressed.  On the conference’s second day, prepare to apply your training in a unique series of hands-on exercises that include a simulated animal hoarding crime scene and two labs for examination of both live and deceased victims.  You will come away with the skills and confidence to respond effectively when a hoarding case comes your way.  Together we will explore the fascinating and disturbing world of animal hoarding, complete with an investigation into the motivations and perspectives of people who hoard and the impacts on the animal victims. We will look at the roles of veterinarians, animal welfare workers, law enforcement, municipal government, social workers, and psychologists in hoarding interventions.

Offense?

• Hear from a confessed animal hoarder on her struggles with recovery.

• Ms. Leeann McKee, M.S. Psychologist, will speak on the clinical treatment

process.

• Dr. Randall Lockwood, Ph.D. ASPCA Senior Vice President, Forensic

Sciences and Anti-Cruelty Projects, will speak on his extensive research
and findings on animal hoarding.

• Mr. Tim Rickey, ASPCA Senior Director Field Investigations and Response,

will address large scale seizures.

This year’s focus will be on issues faced by first responders.  Cory Chalmers is the key-note speaker and is a featured expert on A&E’s hit series “Hoarders: Buried Alive.”
